The Art of Creative Thinking – Rod Judkins

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audiobook version of Rod Judkins’ insightful book ‘The Art of Creative Thinking’. It’s a collection of over 80 short chapters each looking at different aspects or examples of creativity and creative thinking.

Each chapter consists of only 3-4 pages, or around 3-5mins in the audiobook, each offering an idea to reflect upon whether it is “be committed to commitment” or “don’t be someone else”. The ideas spiral off in various directions (and each chapter ends with a ‘choose your own adventure’ style option – Convinced try Chapter X, not convinced then try Chapter Y).

Whilst I found the books an interesting read in its own right, it’s real strength for me is as a resource for assembly inspiration, which seems entirely in keeping given that there’s a chapter called ‘take what you need’, and another called ‘remake, then remake the remake’ which together talk about the importance of learning from other peoples ideas, and the creativity of remixing ideas…

So having enjoyed the audiobook version, I’ve now ordered a copy of the hardback book, and look forward to remixing some of his thoughts!
